Lunch is the meal Girvan is best set up for, largely because the cafés here open early and the chip shops open at midday.
In town
- The Harbour Café side of Graziano's — the sit-in fish lunch, with window seats over the boats. The default.
- Maly's, Dalrymple Street — soup, baked potatoes and sandwiches, generous and cheap.
- Simpsons Bakers, Dalrymple Street — a pie or a filled roll, the quickest and cheapest lunch in town.
- Tonka's Kitchen, South Park Avenue — street food and loaded fries.
- The Vaults and the Harbour Bar lounge do pub lunches when the kitchens are on.
Take a gelato from the Gelateria afterwards and walk it off on the promenade.
On a walk
David's Snack Bar in the Ainslie Park car park — soup, stovies, burgers and coffee from a van at the south end of the prom, and where walkers finish the coastal path stage from Lendalfoot. Better than it has any right to be.
Worth the short drive
- The Ropes, Maidens harbour, fourteen minutes — pizza and light bites on a terrace over the boats, and the best lunch view on this coast.
- Wildings, Maidens — a proper lunch, Monday to Saturday 12–2pm and Sunday 12–2.30pm. Book.
- Souter's Inn, Kirkoswald — open all day from 9am, and the natural stop on a Culzean day.
- The Greenside, Maybole — from 10am on its opening days, with wood-fired pizza.
- Culzean's Home Farm and Swan Pond cafés, if you are there anyway.
Practical notes
Most kitchens stop mid-afternoon — aim to eat by 2pm, and earlier out of season. Sunday and Monday are the thinnest days. See cafés and breakfast.
