Girvan is 1 hr 15 from Glasgow and 35 minutes from Prestwick Airport, so a Friday-evening arrival is realistic. Fees below are summer 2026 non-resident rates; shoulder-season and winter visitors can halve the bucket-list total.
Plan A — the budget weekend (green fees c. £90–120)
| Fri pm | Girvan — evening nine on the links holes | c. £20 twilight |
|---|---|---|
| Sat | Belleisle (35 min) — Braid's parkland; lunch in the new clubhouse; Alloway for non-golfers | top council band |
| Sun am | Girvan full 18, or Maybole nine on the way home | c. £30 / budget |
Eat: Graziano's chips Friday, Yasmin's Saturday. Stay: a Girvan B&B.
Plan B — the mid-range weekend (green fees c. £400)
| Fri pm | Girvan — warm-up 18 | c. £30 |
|---|---|---|
| Sat | Turnberry King Robert the Bruce (12 min); lighthouse walk after; dinner at Wildings, Maidens | c. £250 (or £125 each in a Scottish-resident four) |
| Sun | Prestwick St Nicholas Sunday-afternoon window, or Wigtownshire County on the way south | £110 / £60 |
Book the Bruce a month or more ahead in summer.
Plan C — the bucket-list weekend (green fees c. £1,400–1,700)
| Fri pm | Girvan — loosen up by the beach | c. £30 |
|---|---|---|
| Sat | Turnberry Ailsa — morning tee, caddie, lunch at the lighthouse | £1,000 + £85 caddie (£475 if you sleep at the hotel Friday) |
| Sun | Prestwick 10.58–12.28 window, £380 — or, if your dates and handicap fit, plan for a Monday/Thursday at Royal Troon instead | £380 / £365 |
Book Turnberry and Prestwick three to six months ahead; Troon six to nine. Swap the Ailsa for the Bruce and the total drops by £750 with almost no loss of scenery.
Shoulder-season versions
The same three plans in April or October: Plan C becomes roughly £315 (Ailsa, October weekday) + £275–295 (Prestwick) — under £650. In winter, £175 + £175.
Non-golfers
Culzean Castle, the Ailsa Craig boat, the beach, Wigtown's bookshops, the Galloway forest. See things to do.
