Where it is

The apartment sits on the seafront terrace facing Girvan beach, with the sand a few yards away across the road and the length of the promenade in front of you. The arrow on the photograph marks the building.

It is a Conservation Area address, and the position is the whole point: the view runs west over the Firth of Clyde to Ailsa Craig ten miles out, with Arran to the north. This coast faces due west, so the sunset happens in front of the window — after ten o'clock in June.

The town is on the doorstep. The harbour, the boating pond and play park, the chip shops and the two free museums are all within a ten-minute walk, as are the shops on Dalrymple Street and the railway station on the Glasgow–Stranraer line.

The living room

The living room runs across the front of the building on the top floor, which is where the view comes from — west over the promenade and the beach to the open firth, with Ailsa Craig on the horizon.

It is a bright, generous room with a window seat and space for the dining table at one end, and it is the reason to book this particular flat rather than any other. On a clear evening you can watch the sun go down into the sea without leaving the sofa.

The dining kitchen

The dining kitchen was newly fitted during the renovation, with integrated appliances and space to sit and eat.

Girvan is a good town for self-catering: there is a butcher, a greengrocer and a century-old bakery on Dalrymple Street, a Tesco and a Co-op for the weekly shop, and fish landed at the harbour ten minutes' walk away. See shopping in Girvan and where to eat.

Questions visitors ask

Frequently asked

How much does it cost to stay?

Rates start at £239 per night. We are not taking bookings at the moment — get in touch if you would like to know when dates open up.

Where exactly is the apartment?

On the Edwardian seafront terrace facing Girvan beach, in the town's Conservation Area. The sand is a few yards away across the road, the harbour and town centre are within a ten-minute walk, and the railway station is about ten minutes on foot.

What is the view like?

It faces due west over the promenade and the beach to the Firth of Clyde, with Ailsa Craig ten miles offshore and Arran to the north. Because the coast faces west, the sun sets directly in front of the window — after 10pm in June.

How many people does the apartment sleep?

Five. There are two bedrooms — bedroom one with bespoke fitted Hammonds wardrobes, bedroom two with a fitted desk and dressing table — and one contemporary shower room.

Is there parking?

Yes, a private parking space to the rear of the building. Girvan also has free public parking at the harbour and at Ainslie Park.

Is the apartment on the ground floor?

No — it is a top-floor apartment, reached by a stair from a shared foyer serving only three properties. That is what gives it the view, but it is worth knowing if stairs are difficult.

What is there to do nearby?

The beach and promenade are across the road, and the harbour, boating pond, play park and two free museums are within a ten-minute walk. Culzean Castle is twenty minutes by car, Turnberry twelve, and Ayr half an hour by direct train. This site is a full guide to all of it.

Can you get there without a car?

Yes. Girvan is on the Glasgow–Stranraer railway and the station is about ten minutes' walk from the apartment. Buses run north and south along the coast, and Ayr is half an hour by direct train.
