Maly's is the café on Girvan's main street that locals and visitors both use, which is the most reliable recommendation any small town café can have. A cooked breakfast in the morning, soup, baked potatoes and sandwiches at lunch, and a simple early dinner — all of it generous and cheap.
It is not trying to be anything else. There is no single-origin coffee list and no exposed brickwork. What there is, is quick service, big plates and a room that is busy from opening because the food is good value and the staff are quick.
When to use it
Breakfast is what it is best known for and the default in town — see breakfast in Girvan.
A wet morning is the other answer. It is indoors, it is warm, it does not mind you staying, and a long breakfast is a perfectly respectable way to sit out a shower — which on this coast usually passes in half an hour. See Girvan on a rainy day.
With children it works: fast, unfussy and used to families, with food arriving before anyone runs out of patience.
Practical notes
On Dalrymple Street, the main street and the A77, a couple of minutes from Stumpy Tower and the McKechnie Institute — which makes it the natural stop in the middle of the town heritage trail.
Hours are shorter out of season and Sunday can be thin, as with most places in the town. There is no dedicated parking; use the seafront or harbour car parks a few minutes away.
