Amusements on Girvan Seafront

Old-fashioned seaside fun by the beach, a brand-new soft play at the harbour, and funfairs on the big days.

FamilySummerSeafront

Girvan grew up as a seaside resort after the railway arrived from Glasgow in 1860, bringing day-trippers to the beach, and the seafront still has the simple pleasures that go with that: a boating pond, a putting green, pedal carts on the promenade and a big play park, all a few steps from the sand. It is not Blackpool, and most families staying here find that is exactly the point.

On the seafront

  • The boating pond, beside the promenade, with pedal boats in summer.
  • Pedal cart hire along the promenade, in summer.
  • The putting green, in summer.
  • The play park, a modern children's play area on the seafront, open all year.
  • Stair Park, next to the promenade, for running about.

Summer attractions keep seasonal and weather-dependent hours, so if the sun is out in July and August, everything will be running; on a grey day in May, some of it may not be.

The arcade

Girvan's long-standing arcade is Mayfair Amusements, on Knockcushan Street near the harbour, run by the same owner for more than 35 years. In November 2023 the building was put up for sale because the owner was retiring, with planning permission to convert it to flats, and in November 2026 it was listed online as temporarily closed. We cannot confirm it is open, so do not plan a day around it; if you are passing, look in.

Indoors, when it rains

The Quay Zone at the harbour is the answer to a wet day. Its pool, with fun sessions with inflatables, reopened in January 2026 after storm damage, and its new extension, with a four-level soft play, a café and a terrace looking out to Ailsa Craig, opened in October 2026. Funfair days

Girvan's big community days bring the rides out:

And to finish

No seaside afternoon is complete without an ice cream. Girvan Gelateria is on the front, and the fish and chips are never far away.
