Dalmilling Golf Course, Ayr

The easiest walk and one of the cheapest eighteens in Ayrshire.

Pictured: Sunset behind Ailsa Craig — a general view of the area, not of this place.

Dalmilling lies on the flat ground east of Ayr town centre, next to Ayr Racecourse, and it is the council's most accessible course in every sense: generous fairways, little rough, no hills and, in the council's own words, a friendly atmosphere.

Who it suits

Anyone who wants to walk eighteen holes without climbing. That sounds like a modest virtue until you have played the hillier courses on this coast in a wind, and it makes Dalmilling a genuinely good choice for older golfers, anyone with a knee or a hip, and beginners who want to concentrate on the golf rather than the terrain.

It is also among the cheapest eighteens in Ayrshire — 10 points on the Golf South Ayrshire Flexi system, the same band as Girvan and below Seafield at 12 and Belleisle at 18. See cheap golf near Girvan.

It will not test a low handicapper, and it does not pretend to. It is a friendly, fair, honest municipal course.

Practical notes

Facilities are basic — a clubhouse and changing rooms, but nothing like the refurbished clubhouse at Belleisle Park. Book on 01292 616255 or online. Included in the council season ticket and Flexi points membership.

As across all the Golf South Ayrshire courses, visitors have reserved tee-time windows rather than open booking through the day, and these differ between summer and winter. Check when you book.

The course is open all year, and being flat parkland it drains reasonably — though after heavy rain the flat ground is exactly what holds water, so links courses will play better in a wet spell.

Combine with

A race day at Ayr Racecourse next door, or a round here and a walk round Rozelle on the other side of town. Ayr itself is five minutes away.

Prices and visitor policies checked August 2026 against the club's own website and cross-checked with independent golf guides. Clubs revise rates every season and restrict visitor times around competitions, so confirm directly before travelling.

Questions visitors ask

Frequently asked

Is Dalmilling an easy course?

It is the flattest eighteen in the area, with generous fairways and little rough. It will not test a low handicapper, but it is a fair and friendly round and much the easiest walk locally.

How much does Dalmilling cost?

It is in the council's budget band — 10 points on the Golf South Ayrshire Flexi system, the same as Girvan and below Seafield and Belleisle. Check the current green fee on 01292 616255.

Is Dalmilling suitable for older golfers?

It is the local course most suited to anyone who would rather not climb — flat throughout, which matters more than it sounds after eighteen holes in an Ayrshire wind.

What facilities are there?

Basic — a clubhouse and changing rooms. For a café, bar and pro shop, Belleisle Park's refurbished clubhouse serves Belleisle and Seafield.

Where is Dalmilling?

On Westwood Avenue, east of Ayr town centre, immediately beside Ayr Racecourse — about 35 minutes from Girvan.

Is Dalmilling open all year?

Yes. It drains reasonably for parkland, though flat ground holds water after heavy rain, so a links course will play better in a wet spell.

Is it included in the season ticket?

Yes, in both the Golf South Ayrshire season ticket and the Flexi points membership, which cover eight courses.
