Seafield shares the Belleisle Estate, the clubhouse and the James Braid pedigree with its big sister, but it is a gentler proposition: shorter, flatter, with wider fairways and fewer hazards — and correspondingly cheaper.
The two courses wind through the same handsome parkland of mature trees and open lawns on the edge of Ayr, with views across to Arran. The clubhouse at Belleisle Park was extensively refurbished and serves both.
How it compares to Belleisle
Belleisle is the championship course and widely called the best municipal parkland in Scotland — a genuine test, and priced accordingly at 18 points on the council's Flexi system. Seafield is 12 points, and plays as the easier, more relaxed round.
That makes it the sensible choice if you are playing with mixed abilities, if you have played Belleisle in the morning and want a second eighteen, or if you simply want a good Braid parkland without the length. It is a better course than its status as 'the other one' suggests.
Practical notes
The shared clubhouse has a café, bar and pro shop — a considerable advantage over the council's more basic courses like Dalmilling and Maybole.
Book on 01292 616255 or online. Both courses are included in the Golf South Ayrshire season ticket and Flexi points membership, which covers eight courses and is among the best-value golf memberships in Scotland if you are here for a season.
Golf South Ayrshire runs reserved visitor tee-time windows across its courses — generally mid-morning and mid-afternoon slots, and different in winter — so check when booking rather than assuming you can play at any time.
Getting there
About 35 minutes from Girvan, in Belleisle Park on the Doonfoot Road between Ayr and Alloway. The park itself is free and worth a walk — see Rozelle and Belleisle.
