A lot of what makes Girvan feel like a town that looks after itself is down to one group of volunteers. Girvan & District Attractions was founded by local people in 1973, became a registered charity (a SCIO) in 2019, and still runs the town's biggest community days and nights without charging people to come.
This section of the site is a guide to their events — what each one is, when it happens, what goes on and how to take part — with full credit to the people who organise them. Everything here comes from Girvan Attractions' own website and their 2026 Gathering programme.
What they are for
Girvan Attractions puts on free events for people living in Girvan and South Carrick, and for the visitors those events bring in. In their own words, community events are the tool they use to reduce social isolation and deprivation, bring the community closer together, and help the town's economy at the same time. A senior citizens' party, a pet show and a safe, organised fireworks night are all part of that, as much as the big Highland games.
They work with youth groups, senior citizens' groups, sports clubs, schools, churches, local democracy groups, other events organisations and the emergency services to make it happen.

How it is paid for
Girvan Attractions relies on grants, donations, sponsorship and advertising, plus its own fundraising: bingo nights, psychic nights, raffles, lucky boxes and a monthly lucky draw on Facebook.
The funders credited on their website and 2026 programme include South Ayrshire Council (through the Destination South Ayrshire grant), Carrick Futures, the Kilgallioch Community Fund and The Hugh Fraser Foundation for the Gathering, and Foundation Scotland, Carrick Futures, The William Grant Foundation, the South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership and Destination South Ayrshire for the fireworks. ARIA funded new gazebos for shelter, radios for communication on the day, and bins so events can encourage recycling and leave the town tidy.
