Self-catering in Girvan means a takeaway night at some point, and for a town of six thousand the choice is decent. Here is all of it.
The list
- Graziano's – Harbour Café, 37 Knockcushan Street — fish and chips, and the one people drive out of their way for. Sit in or take away.
- Girvan Pizzeria — pizzas, pakora, doner, burgers and wraps, with online ordering.
- 88 Chinese Takeaway, 24 Montgomerie Street.
- China Moon, 56 Montgomerie Street — a restaurant that also does takeaway, Wednesday to Sunday evenings.
- A1 Munch, 10 Bridge Street — kebabs, burgers and chips.
- Yasmin's, 10 Dalrymple Street, and Bombay Cuisine, 104B Dalrymple Street — Indian.
- Marine Fish Restaurant, 26 Bridge Street — the other chip shop.
- Simpsons Bakers, Dalrymple Street — pies and sandwiches by day, for a lunch rather than an evening.
Several of the restaurants also do takeaway, including Austins, so it is worth asking if you want something better than the standard options.
Timing and supplies
Most close around 10 to 11pm, and Sunday and Monday hours vary — the early part of the week is when things are most likely to be shut, particularly out of season. Ring rather than driving down.
For self-catering, Tesco is at the north end of town by the A77 and there is a Co-op in the centre, with a butcher, greengrocer and bakery on Dalrymple Street. See shopping in Girvan.
