Graziano's is the chip shop that gives Girvan its reputation along the A77. It is a small, family-run place on Knockcushan Street facing the inner harbour, with a takeaway counter on one side and a sit-in café on the other — which is why you will see it called both Graziano's and the Harbour Café, sometimes in the same sentence.
What makes it good
Locally sourced fish, fried to order, generous portions, and a good deal of friendly banter across the counter. It is not refined and it does not need to be: this is a proper seaside chip shop, thirty seconds from the water, doing one thing well.
The menu runs beyond fish and chips — smoked haddock, sausage, pies, burgers, children's meals — and the sit-in side does tea and a full menu, which makes it a useful lunch stop rather than just an evening supper.
Sitting in
The café side has window seats over the boats, which is a better view than most restaurants on this coast manage and costs a fraction as much. With children it is the fastest and easiest option in town: high chairs, a children's menu and no waiting about. See family-friendly places to eat.
Taking it away
The three places to eat a supper from here, in order of quality:
1. A promenade shelter, facing west, an hour before sunset with Ailsa Craig on the horizon.
2. The harbour wall, thirty seconds away, watching the boats — and do not feed the seals.
3. A bench in Knockcushan Gardens behind the harbour, which is the sheltered option when the wind is up.
The gulls here are practised. Eat with your back to a wall and do not wave chips about.
Practical notes
There are no toilets; the public ones are nearby at the harbour. Dogs are fine at the takeaway counter and outside. Free parking at the harbour car park a minute away.
It sits between the Harbour Bar and the Gelateria, which between them make the standard Girvan evening: chips, a pint, an ice cream and the prom at sunset. See fish and chips in Girvan.
