Girvan is a small town and the evening options reflect that — but they run from about six pounds to genuinely serious, and within twenty minutes the choice widens a good deal.
Cheap and cheerful
Graziano's for fish and chips, Girvan Pizzeria, A1 Munch. Eat on the harbour wall or in a prom shelter if it is dry — see fish and chips, which makes the case that this is the best-value dinner on the coast.
Mid-range
Yasmin's (Indian, Dalrymple Street), China Moon (Montgomerie Street, Wednesday to Sunday evenings), The Vaults (Glendoune Street) and the Harbour Bar lounge when the kitchen is on.
Within twenty minutes: The Greenside in Maybole, Souter's Inn at Kirkoswald, and the Kirkmichael Arms inland.
Special
Austins on Girvan harbour — the town's proper restaurant. Opening days are limited and have changed, so ring and book rather than turning up.
Wildings at Maidens, dinner daily 6–9pm; book, and ask for a window table. The 1906 at Trump Turnberry for the grand room, and Glenapp Castle near Ballantrae for the full five-star experience — book that one well ahead.
The thing to plan around
Early in the week is when Girvan is hardest to eat out in. Several kitchens close for two or three days, most often at the start of the week, and out of season that tightens further. Sunday evening can also be thin.
The practical answer is to ring ahead rather than assume, keep a takeaway in reserve, or drive the fifteen minutes to Kirkoswald where Souter's Inn serves all day. See restaurants and places for couples.
